so in order to enter Bray marina during the olympics from the windsor direction, you now have to go to the right of Queens eyot, past the island before turning back round to the left and entering the marina going downstream. The marina's guidelines always said the marina should always be entered (even when heading downstream) the other way, so you are always heading into the current when turning into the marina.
Wouldn't it of made more sense to have the one way system the other way round?
Hmnnn. You have a good point. Though it's easy to see why they did it this way, keeping river traffic from having two sets of 'crossovers' either end of the Eyot, but I agree that if there's a bit of a stream running (like there oftan is!), then I foresee some interesting manouvering incidents on entering the marina. Some boats are almost bound to end up polaxed on the left (err, sorry, port!) corner. Maybe MDL could rig some substantial fendering in preparation. ;-)
Also, just a thought, maybe the Jubillee River might have made a more convenient (for other river users) practice area than further restricting the River Thames - and more secure for the competitors maybe, too.
Just to let you know that I am working with the E.A and Thames Valley Police on reversing this one way system. I will also be advising all MDL Bray and Windsor berth holders on the arrangements during the Olympic Rowing. However there are many elements still to be decided and until final arrangements are in place it is best to wait until the full picture is to hand.
