Really wishing I could have been able to have the boat down there watching that procession from HC to Tedders live. Looked really great and good to see how so many people wanted to be part of it.

Noticed a few boats seemed to have managed to moor up on the upper cut moorings - hope they paid a premium !

Pity it wasn't an EA launch leading the way :( - although was that Isis (?) just ahead of Gloriana in the lock?

Nice to see so many people at the lock, perhaps even a few who have never bothered to find out what was at the end of the road beyond the pubs .
The more people who "discover" the river running past their back door perhaps the more will visit and care what happens to it ? Allington is a bit of a destination and we frequently get asked while transiting the lock about how long it takes to fill/empty, which way is the "sea" and how long does it take to get there.
Kids seem to absolutely enthralled with all the water rushing in and out,the lockies have a bit of fun on hot summer days as one of the air vents will give a very nice waterspout if encouraged.

To be fair the good folk of Teddington, Ham and Twick are very good at using the lock and tow-path, its their biggest asset to the area, we like to keep the Kingston lot out though...

Very impressive torch display past us in the Kingston stretch as we left for 3 weeks upstream. Good to see the rowing fraternity out and about in support but starring to get a bit tired of the Pinsent Redgrave roadshow tbh.

'Twas fantastic,

To escape the heat of Central Sussex we decide dto "go boating", then realising that HC was possible, we trogged off downstream - despite the threats of total anhiliation between 0700 and 0900 it we enough as hiccoughed.

Moored downstream of folks at HC.

Norra lot of activity. Lockes advised us of doom if going below Tedders, Nowt about HC.

Pleasant mooring revisited well below the bridge (NO I won't say where..).

Woke at 0500 by some prat stating the was going astern
Arose at 0630 to arrange eclectic array of various Brtish Flags and popped a string of same up wery tall amateur radio mast.

Suddenly a horde of Skiff and Punt club members came rushing past (we used to call them something else....).

Then Turk's Palazzo de Strega came past announcing very loudly that the bar was open.

We waited.
0730 (Start time) - zilch, silence, lorra boats in the distance.
Helicoptr noisely hovering.
0745 - gentle stream of boats (not Gloriana) moving in the distance
0748 - movements; oars paunding the river surface,

Suddenly, suddenly,
the water was thrashed by hundreds of oars and punt poles,
waving hands - we responded with a blaring klaxn, WW2 whistle and mouth siren.
Everyone was beserk and quite,
quite beautifully British and dotty.

Part II follows later -
