Oldest SSR

Not quite as low, but my SSR is 01526 and would have been issued in 1983, despite being first launched in Sept 1980.

According to the RYA web site:
"Part III is the Small Ships Register (SSR) which was originally set up under the 1983 Merchant Shipping Act in response to the demand for a cheap and simple means of registering a boat to sail abroad. From 1983 to 1991 the SSR was managed by the RYA, from 1991 to 1996 by the DVLA at Swansea and since 1996 by the Registrar General at Cardiff."

Yacht in Whitehills marina on the Moray coast in Scotland has number 00001.
Bertie Milne the harbour master could confirm if anyone is interested.
I think it's a van de stadt 34 in grp.
And is for sale.

Is the numbering sequential? The reason I ask is my boat is a 1976 Invader 22 with a SSR in the 90,000's but my friends boat is a lot younger with a lower number.
TIA, George.

Are you sure that is the SSR number and not the sail number?

If SSR number, when ddi you first register on the SSR?

When I took over ownership 12 months ago it already had an SSR but it had expired approx 6 years before. I made enquiries to Cardiff and a really helpful lady told me to complete the form she'd send and all would be well. She even told me what my boat was and confirmed the old number, I didn't think to ask of first registration.
Very soon my number arrived - same number continued.
Was a good simple service.
George
