I have a new Navman tracker 5500 plotter. I have been offered a secondhand C-map chart CF85 mini cartridge size X . Code A0110.04 which covers my part of the Irish Sea. My sailing is quite local. Will this cartridge work in my Navman? While I accept it has not the bells and whistles of the latest digi-charts is it OK for simple sailing around the North West? Anything I should be aware of?

First check out Navman site ... for card compatibility .... if ok then >

I take it you are comfortable in your local area and have built up a knowledge of dangers and points to avoid locally ?? Then the chart plotter will compliment this - but not replace. Any limitation then in terms of missing dangers should mostly be cancelled out by your own personal knowledge.

It is accepted that most electronic packages along with paper charts are missing odd dangers and items - so if its waters that you know well ... why not go for it - if its real cheap - it will start you off, if you then feel that a better card is required ... go for that ...

The Navman requires C-map NT+ cartridges not the older CF85s. Have sent you a PM re possible cartridge for sale.

Navman have three different standards:

The original NT which was stored on the cf-85 cartridge. Each cartridge was only able to cover a small area.

The NT+ which is used in the Navman 5500. The cartridge looks like the sony memory sticks. Originally available in superwide format as well as those that are still available. Difference. Wide ctg covers brighton to lands end, whereas the old superwide covered from the thames all the way to the bristol channel.

The latest version NT Max. Your Navman 5500 cant manage these cause the processing requirement and display is too much for the Navman. The largeest chart coverage rivalled the NT+ superwide (and is probably why the NT+ superwide was discontinued). The chart is backed up by lots more information than before. However the list of machines that can cope with this is very small.

CF85 artridges can be traded in against NT+ Wide C-Card. an allowance of £25 is given.

send it to me and order chart on line. I'll give you the credit
