Hopefully some one can point me in the right direction.
A mates engine, in Norway, he has no ability. I have tried twice but failed to get it running.
Initial problem. Acquired 2nd hand started and ran multiple times over a 5 hour period. Taken off 15' boat overnight and stored upright.
Next day remounted launched and started OK ran for about 5 minutes and then just died would not restart.
There was fresh fuel in the tank and i checked that the filter was clear.
I found and downloaded the user manual and a comprehensive exploded diagram /parts list
Since then I have checked for a spark many times NO SPARK.
new champion plug and new NGK plug NO SPARK.
checked again after removing kill cord earth NO SPARK.
Checked the pulser coil face was clean and correct gap. NO SPARK.
Checked continuity / resistance of all coils as best I could with the multi meter to hand, seems ok.
There is NO in gear cutout fitted and it stopped whilst running remember.
I think it is almost certainly the CDI unit and I have found a further online document about how to check and what readings to expect. I will take a good meter back on my next visit and a homemade flywheel puller so that I can check the magneto coils and wiring are intact.
Before I go back are there any other suggestions? of what to look at an test , including test method.
A free online service manual location?
Recommendations for a source of cheap reliable spares, i have seen the stuff on ebay.
He has not got pots of money thanks to job loss and Norway is very expensive hence me trying to do it for him.
I have worked on many engines before so am not an absolute beginner but i do not want to go changing parts out willy nilly if they are not broken.
Finally IT IS NOT A FUEL PROBLEM ! there is plenty getting through when turned over with the plug out. It is an electrical problem so focus on that please.
Many thanks Clive
