Just heard from the lock keeper at Romney that Old Windsor is out of action for the foreseeable future; one of the gate collars has apparently cracked

The impasse regards who will be running the river long term , will probably start to impact more and more.
Basically, maintainance by firefighting.

Despite this, East Farleigh lock still managed to cause problems when,after many years of make do and mend, reconstruction took place.
Until a decision is made about the funding of the river, queing in a layby watching a man with a mallet beating the hell out of a bit of lock apparatus, could be a frequent sight.
Shame that some in influence, managed to prevent the management of the Thames being sorted before the government became pre occupied with other self inflicted injuries.
whacking a bit of kit that's not working with a mallet or hammer is a standard engineering fix that can have results.
Very true. My dad's ex REME and has always referred to a lump hammer as a 'precision adjuster'![]()
