When you say foreseeable future - any idea how long? Need to travel thru Old Windsor next Sunday.

I believe it’s now been fixed; when I was there an EA engineer was whacking it with a mallet. Boveney lock keeper said he thought it was opening later this afternoon.

Might be worth a call to make sure.

Teddington duty desk reports it was fixed at 1548 yesterday but engineers returning to inspect further today.

The impasse regards who will be running the river long term , will probably start to impact more and more.
Basically, maintainance by firefighting.
The upper Medway has enjoyed a prolonged period of serious investment over the last decade,which is only now drawing to a close up at Tonbridge.
Despite this, East Farleigh lock still managed to cause problems when,after many years of make do and mend, reconstruction took place.

Until a decision is made about the funding of the river, queing in a layby watching a man with a mallet beating the hell out of a bit of lock apparatus, could be a frequent sight.

Shame that some in influence, managed to prevent the management of the Thames being sorted before the government became pre occupied with other self inflicted injuries.

The maintenance has been reactive for some years now. The only planned stuff is the greasing of beam lock gates and even that was put back to alternate years until a keeper injured himself while pushing dry gates. Anyway, as I said to B1 earlier today, whacking a bit of kit that's not working with a mallet or hammer is a standard engineering fix that can have results.

Very true. My dad's ex REME and has always referred to a lump hammer as a 'precision adjuster'
