Old winch identification and dismantling

Does anyone know what type of winch this is? I am trying to dismantle and remove it. It looks like there is a locking screw on one side of the central large slotted screw spindle (see photo of top of the winch) but this does not appear to be a standard screw type. Grateful for any thoughts

I had halyard winches like that.

The small lock screw should have a slotted head but it looks like it has been mauled.

Once you have got that out, you can unscrew the large central screw.

Then pull off the slotted winch cap and the barrel, taking care to prevent the pawls and springs being lost.

I have one of those winches somewhere here at home and I could post pictures of it dismantled tomorrow if you wish.

I can't see the screw referred to however assuming it is a single speed winch. I have one spare not sure it's make however instead of a screw at the bottom of the winch handle hole it has nothing. The trick is that you push the bottom of the winch handle hole with a dowel or rod and this releases clips internally which enble you to lift the barrel off the body. Then like any other winch you can service it or remove mounting screws. Had me foxed for a while. Just in case that is the trick. ol'will

That's a Barlow winch. The one pictured looks like a gibb ?
Look closely at first picture and there is a small screw head to the left of the slot. Looks "rusted" in.

A few years ago I got mine apart for a service. It was a bit of a struggle so I took some photos for next time.

You need to remove the small screw which locks the big screw. You can see the small threaded hole in the top of the spindle that the small screw goes into. As it was 50 years old it took a bit of care and brute force to get it apart.
