Old Varnish rounds the Horn

keep the dream

Well done that man! Something that most of us can only dream about.

congrats to a fine man and a fine boat

it must be an amazing experience

Nil desperandum Giblets

keep the dream alive and it might happen

I too wanted to circumnavigate the globe

I realised that I was not ever going to make it

not serious enough about becoming a good hack - too serious about being a good a father

I changed the word globe to island

bingo... the dream is back on

Old Varnish's blog is so well written, great fun, a modestly put great adventure . With seaman like useful information..
Congratulations if he gets to read this.

Dylan's RTI quest reminds me how important it is to enjoy the journey as well as the destination or challenge, at least that is so for me..

In the USA I was 'lapped' by friends who had been round the world one and a half times already... To each their own. Now they were lingering more and interacting and having a hoot..which is why I would never race beyond a couple of RTIs in the past and Sunday morning sillies

+1

When I was 14 i dreamed of the Whitbread RTW

but in my 40's I dream of RT IOW.

better to be sailing the carp boat you can afford now on the adventure you can do today rather than wasting all those years dreaming about the boat you think you need to take you on the voyage to the places you think you want to visit.

we only go around the hamster wheel once.....

Besides..... think of all the paperwork involved in a round the world voyage

no one has ever asked to see either of my two bits of paper - 3rd party insurance and a radio license

Had no idea Paul Heiney masqueraded as Old Varnish until now! Have always enjoyed Old Varnishes posts and the way they're composed, the pennies dropped now! Yes, congratulations and well done to all the crew, they're entitled to wear earrings now!

Cheers, Brian.
