Thanks for all the imaginative ideas.I did think that a re-use where a less than failsafe system was permissible or one allowing some redundancy would be possible.Although a 10M flagpole would need a somewhat larger plot than we enjoy.
 
I have freecycled a couple of full sets of 6mm rigging to gardeners for house wires for wisteria, runner bean wires and all sorts of garden projects. Good to see stuff being utilised.

+1 Recycle one way or another- I used old guard wires (5mm SS) for washing lines and various other projects round the garden.
 
We have used old rigging wire, unwound, when TIG welding.

On Stavros we used strands of untwisted rigging wire (albeit galvanised rather than stainless) for mousing shackles and suchlike.

Admittedly, it would take a very long time to use up a whole shroud that way :)
