Still trying to find out about my old boat, have contacted some of the Fal oyster men, but how old do we think this might be, it came out of the failed laminated stem that was in it. There must have come a time when a builder would have bought a galvanised ringbolt and not had a blacksmith make one. It has been suggested I send a sample of wood for analysis, but that would only tell me the age of the tree it came from.

It looks to be bronze or copper. Believe it or not, that is the sort of ring used in the nose of a bull. They must have been quite a common item up to the late 1960's at agricultural merchants and rural boat yards.

The tree would have been felled a very short number of years before it was used in the building of the boat.
 
You say the boat had a laminated stem, that the eyebolt went through that puts it at post WW2 probably later.
So its probably home made or a reused item.

The laminated stem was a very bad post build repair, the glue failed, so I guess that was done maybe 40 years ago, before going in the barn at -37 years now. I laminated the new stem the opposite way, laminates running for/aft not flat. See below
