Okay I have a small problem that I can’t quite diagnose. Maybe you guys can help. I have an old Ray Marine auto helm system using older ST 60 units with a type 300 course computer and Raymarine E80.

I just powered up the system and all the units asked for my code lock but normally I can return to the boat after six months and they never require a code.

The main ST 7000 unit flashes “failed” and I don’t get a GPS fix on the ST50 Navdata. However as you can see on the photo my Potter is getting a GPS fix and also reading correctly from the compass, but it doesn’t show depth. My depth is reading on one of the ST50 units in the cabin but up in the cockpit I’m getting no readings.

Any ideas how I might troubleshoot this with a multimeter. Feels like all the data is there but in different places so perhaps a cable continuity issue?

Thanks the best way to clean the connectors... particularly the female ends?

Electrical contact cleaner works well. High pressure aerosol can with a straw, give them a good blast. If you find a Seatalk connector (the 3 pin curved one) with badly corroded terminals you can snip the plug off and use 2.8mm spades.

Going on distant memory, I thought Code-lock was a feature of ST50 but not ST60. If so it would mean that the connector plugs are different. Also I seem to remember a thread here in which someone was convinced that forgetting the code was due to a failing internal battery. However there's no mention of this battery in the instructions AFAIK.

quite right! They are ST50 sorry. I’m also going to add a diagram to the initial post.
