Exhaust rocker broke on Perkins Perama M20 engine (KB 20293) - which I think is the equivalent of the Volvo Penta MD2020

I have a new one but it is a different design and angle - and has to be fitted with a different valve cap.

The advice in the Volvo manual is that ALL the rockers should be changed if you fit the new part. Anybody know why? - or where I could source the old part...new or second hand

I've tried all the usual dealers ...many thanks

The Perkins Perama M20, M25 amd M30 are marinised versions of the Perkins 100 series. They are also the same engine block as the Volvo MD2020 and MD2030, and all of them were a development of the Japanese Shibura engine. I think there was a major design change on this engine and that is the one Volvo use. The chances are the block may be the same but nothing else.

Your best bet is to channel your search for parts towards the early Perkins 100 series, pre-design change, which I think you will find is your particular engine. These engines had numerous industrial uses so the chances are there is a good parts supply out there. I'm pretty sure some found their way into small compressors etc. I've put a URL below for the engine PDF. You've probably got it but Heh!
