I have an old morse twin engine control on my boat. The starboard lever has 'lost' its click. The port one is OK. I imagine there is a ball bearing and spring arrangement somewhere. Has anyone got ant experience of stripping one down???? Is it likely to be worn beyond recovery???
Cheers

Morse detent

Usually, the detent is on the transmission. On my Borg-Warner there is a plate on the opposite side to the shifter on the transmission(Where the cable attaches) and under the plate there is a ball-bearing and a spring. Perhaps the spring has failed, or the ball has rusted in place. There are two wires attached also, which go to the starter circuit to activate the neutral shut-out, preventing the starting of the motor if it is in gear.

Yep from memory there is a ball bearing detent energised by bent spring steel plates. Stripping it is dead easy - about four screws hold the two halves together then an allen screw at the bottom of the lever holds it on a splined shaft. a quick clean filled by a good spray with aerosol grease is all it should need. Cables may be a different matter though.. I am going to bodge up a compressed air driven oiler and give that a go.
