Old Liferaft

When we did MOB practice last year we were given an old liferaft to play with. 15 years old and condemned it went off just fine. Worth seeing what it is like and all the goodies inside. We punctured it to deflate it then put it in a skip at a YC.

Ask a liferaft service centre or offer it to a sea safety training place.

This has been asked before I'm sure, but is there anywhere locally to dispose of an old but intact Liferaft.

Our club was given one such as yours with the wish that a home be found for it for the general benefit of others.

An organiser of RYA Sea Survival Courses was pleased to take it off our hands, and in return we were offered concessional rates for any of our members who attended a course.

I understand the raft performed well and can be rearmed for further courses, so you might try that route rather than simply discard it

See if your local RNLI would like it. Might be useful for practice?

Before we, as a group, did MOB practice I spoke to the RNLI about sending someone along to impart their wisdom. They said they couldn't do this as they knew nothing about recovering a casualty to a yacht - they only knew about recovering to their own craft. I was a bit taken aback. Perhaps they might want to practice recovering from a liferaft. You would hope so.

We had a six man one, one boiling hot cadet week we blew it up & filled it with water for the kids to play in. Days of first class fun ensued until the water turned green & the grass around it resembled glastonbury mud.
