Last week I saw a Folkboat in Dartmouth with the sail number "FB7" (or "9"...I can't remember which!) On the assumption that this means it was one of the original folkboats does anyone know how old this would make it?

No reason for asking, just interested. It was a nice boat.

Folkboats just have an F on the sails. The first was launched in 1942 (23rd April).

The FB means its a British folkboat (ie, same hull shape, but not meeting class rules, whether because its carvel planked, has an inboard, a larger coachroof or maybe flys a spinnaker or genoa).

The first British folkboats first were built in 1950, the same year that the first nordic Folkboats were imported. So I guess that means FB7 would have been built in 1950 or 51.

Both FB7 and FB9 are still registered with the F B Association "Lene of Assens" FB7 is owned by M.C.Lewis. Home Port Cornwall. F B 9 "Malista" is owned by P. Burnett, home port Penzance. Hope this of some use to you.
