Old engine oil & teak

Hi, I have recently had the engines serviced but unfortunately the mechanic has managed to spill some of the old engine oil onto the teak in the cockpit. I’m not talking a major amount but an area of about 1 to 2 inch in diameter.
Before attempting to cleaning it myself I thought it best to ask the knowledgeable. Any thoughts on products/method would be much appreciated.

Try K2R.. did a great job of removing olive oil from my teak decks. Leave overnight for best results

When this sort of thing happens I use washing up liquid, rubbed into the oil spot, leave overnight and rinse down. That’ll remove most of the stain, the remainder will weather out in a couple of weeks. Don’t attack it with a scrubbing brush as you’ll damage the teak.
That said, I tend to leave small spots to weather out: only take a few days most of the time.

I'd use a solvent and some kitchen roll.
Haynes manuals grade jobs according to difficulty, one to four spanners.
I grade jobs according to how much kitchen roll is involved.
For the solvent, I'd try IPA or Acetone.

An antique restorer's trick to draw oil stains out of old timber furniture is to use some methylated spirit on the stain and then set it alight. It burns the oil out without harming the wood.

Carpet cleaner is a close to hand alternative. Applied only slightly dilute and left to soak; a small bund around the stain will contain it..

A light rub with meths is suitable for a finishing touch if a shadow remains. But sunlight will soon deal any small residual

No none of this - Teak is remarkably forgiving. Just sunlight and rain water will clear it.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I’m in Portugal so a bit limited to products that are available to me that I recognise.

I think that I’ll start with washing up liquid just rubbed in with my fingers but as mentioned previously, no brushing.

I’ll let you know how I get on.
