Old car stereo for boat

I am looking for one of those old 'two knob' car stereos for my small boat. No tape, or cd, just the standard AM/FM tuner without digital presets. They were the cutting edge of car audio in the mid 70's. They draw very little power and often have stronger reception.

I have searched car boot sales and trawled Ebay but can't find any. Anybody else know where I could find one?
 
They are probably collector's items now, along with 8-track tape decks and fluffy dice. Have you tried your local breaker's yard? Even a 10-15 year old car will have a code-protected digital radio like as not.
 
Don't be fooled, modern radio/cd units draw little current, by the time you have got the valves warmed up on an old set you'll have a flat battery!
 
If you are still looking PM me. I have one that is about 30 years old and worked last time when used.

I can't agree that they have stronger reception. I now have a JVC CD version that pulls in stations up the Kyles of Bute with NO aerial attached!
 
Try the skips at local marinas, especially up-market ones with lots of power boats.

I recovered 3, more for the fun of seeing if they worked than anything else. All did (sorting the wiring is the fun part). One was a (transistor) 2-knob as you describe, but it's the one I gave away!. In the 'museum' still have a 12v (HT) valve version with separate transistor output amp; and an even older vibrator valve one!!

They were invariably made by "Philips". I used to have one, but as I sold the car 30years ago I can't help!

Seriously though a modern radio will use less power; modern electronics are more efficient.
FWIW Argos have cheap radio (£35) in their catalogue which would probably give you what you want. It's got a cassette, but you don't have to use it. It's also got Long Wave which must be essential on boat for the Shipping Forecast.
 
I found an old radio in the flea market in Goes (holland) cost me 4 euros and 4 years on is still working fine and it even has a tape facility
