I own a 44 year old wooden MG YM water witch that I am currently renovating. anyone know of any good insurance companies. That are happy to cover old wooden boats.
Thanks

Simon winter without a doubt. I asked the same question on theses venerable pages a few months back, and testament to the quality of knowledge hereabouts, "simon's yer man"

for our 70 year old death trap (she keeps setting fire to herself and wetting her pants, buts thats old ladies for you) the usual suspect of boaty insurance types were quoting anyhing up 3 grand

Simon winter, no hassles, £375

the only survey we had at the time was one done in 2002. Accepted that, but has requested a re-survey next year at renewal time, which considering her age, was fairly good I thought. The 2002 survey was done when she was on the blocks in fraserborough and was in bits

As mine will be ashore long time for restoration Simon was happy with a survey done for the previous owner about 4 years previously. In fact he knows the surveyor and got a copy directly from him.

Looks like a full house of satisfied Simon Winter clients - myself included. I believe he is part owner of a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter, so isnt shy of older boats. He was happy to arrange laid-up cover while I restore my boat, on condition that she is surveyed and valued before being refloated.

I have my similar age Eventide with Bishop Skinner. No survey required as yet, but I have owned her since 1980. Two claims only, last one in 1987 storm. 1992 survey and declaration of condition from me is all that they asked for.

Thanks Chaps, Got the quote from Simon winter this morning £245.00 plus vat v chuffed /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My 1930s wooden Dunkirk Little Ship is insured through Hays Parsons Bristol, I've had the boat surveyed twice since 1995. The last time after a major refit that included having the ferrocrete covering removed, a few planks and ribs replaced, new engines and gearboxs fitted.

Never had a claim so dont know how they would shape up then.
