Any suggestions on what to do with an old autopilot?

I have an old Ctreck (Global) 770 autopilot complete with compass, rudder position indicator and remote.

At some point there was a short in the system which led to the 902-683 Steering System Power Interface not sending 12v power to the compass. The problem is that pins 1 and 2 from the 510-500 cable assembly port on the Steering System Power interface are not sending any more power than 1v to the Compass Controller

I've had a look at it, but couldn't see anything obviously wrong e.g. burned out components or the like.

It's one of those things where it's not worth sending off to theservicecentre.eu to be fixed as the cost including postage would be likely be close to its value anyway. On the flip side it's kind of too valuable to discard.

Now that my system is all NMEA 2000 this is never going back on the boat (I'll use more compatible system for backup), so what would you be inclined to do with it?

It's only too valuable to discard if it has a value to you. If it were me I'd advertise it on the for sale section either for free or at nominal cost for spares, and if there are no takers, bin it.

This is a difficult one. The ram from my OEM Autohelm 2000 stopped working. Replacement Rams were/are unobtainable. After about a fortnight hunting about. I found a company wiling to rewind the motor. It was a wee bit over £200, but they guaranteed the repair and offered a refund if it proved too hard. I'm delighted with the repaired motor and the ram works well. Compared to the price of a new Raymarine Auto helm 2000 it was a no-Brainer. The control box works after all.

At least I knew the problem lay with the Ram. I suspect the same logic drives what you plan to do. You'll never get enough for a broken one to make a new one cost effective, but you really need to be confident in the original equipment to do this. I had no idea how old my Pre-Raymarine Autohelm 2000 was but I had enough confidence in its electronics to refurbish the ram.

I have a similar problem with my old Autohelm 2000. Would you be kind enough to let me know where you got it repaired please, Topcat47?

My AP 2500 from 1992 developed a fault, I located a spare second hand component in a marine elec supplier but despite many requests can't get even a 'no' from them. There's probably a spare for you somewhere.

eBay it for a small price, someone with the same system who's after spares might just thank you, I have an old system(different) and I'm on the lookout for a spare full set up to carry on long hauls
