Hi all.

I have an old 1980's 90 HP Suzuki outboard boat engine. It has got a crack in the leg just behind the propeller (can easily be welded) and it also needs welding around the thermostat area where I had tried to replace the thermostat many years ago and the bolts sheared.

It has not been started up for over 20 years and basically I think it probably needs to be scrapped.

Is it worth me trying to ebay it? Is the scrap metal worth anything? Where and how should I go about scrapping it? Would I do better to dismantle it myself and scrap it at a metal merchants?

Sorry for all the questions, but I have put this off and off.....and I just know what I should do with it.

Any comments/advice welcome.

Thank You

I always find the s--t I start at a£1 are the items that make me the happiest when they sell for way more than I expected just be honest & offer to put it on a pallet for collection & you might be pleasantly surprised

nothing to lose anyway it will cost you time & effort to take it to the tip or scrap yard

That was a tough call, did you get your wife to help you decide?

To a degree yes, but to be honest the boat was brilliant 20-30 years ago, but after that I could not let go of it in the belief that one day I would have the time and the money to fix the engine and get it back in the water...It took me 20+ years but I have eventually come to my senses....its like the saying
“There is that moment in time where you have to realize you have to let go of the rope...” . I had a great time water skiing all those years ago and was looking forward to teaching my children to water ski.....but I have been too busy and have not had the money to splash out on the boat. Now the kids are at uni and thats costing us dearly...so its got to go!!!!

I bought a new trailer for the boat a couple of years ago. The trailer has not been in the water at all.
Its true to say that I could try and sell the whole lot together, but figured that it would probably better to sell the engine, break the boat up by hand (its a 14ft sheakspear that needs work done to it) and then try sell the trailer on ebay for as much as I can get for it.

If it also had the sheakspear boat with it I think I would get a lot less then the trailer on its own?

Anyway thats my plan, which is probably a bad plan, but one way or another the boats got to go.

Thanks again...

I'd put the whole lot (boat, engine, trailer) on ebay as a project. Be upfront about all the engine issues. Why do three transactions when you can clear out your garage in one go? It's easier to sell boat if it has a trailer, and you don't want to sell the trailer till the boat has been sold, and so on. Selling it in one lot avoids all this hassle
