Oil on Southend beach

We walked the dogs on the beach at Thorpe bay on Sunday. Right at the high tide mark there was weed that was full of oil. I guess that went all the way along the beach at Southend too.

Had to bath the dogs and scrub their feet with washing up liuid to get it off.

At the same time we found an injured seagull (bird not motor) It too was smeared with oil - so we took it home wrapped in a poo bag and the RSPCA came and got it. We mentioned the oil and they phoned the coast guard.

Half an hour after the seagull had gone there was a knock on the door and someone had spotted an injured pidgeon under the car!! What's the odds of that happening - two in one day. It was a racing pidgeon and had a phone number stamped on its wing so I called the guy who came and collected it from Basildon. I doubt if it saw monday morning

I was returning from Stangate to Gravesend on Sunday morning and one of the TOSCA boats came alongside in the Lower Hope and told me there was a large leakage of crude oil in the water from Tilbury - globules cricket ball size. They were circling around working a patch of water that did look a bit oily but I didnt see anything else.
