oil leak

my volvo 200 hp td is 12 yrs old and has developed an oil leak at the back of the engine . all i can see is an oil trace running down into the bilge (cannot get to close as the other engine is there) it appears to be where the engine joins the outdrive.
if you think this is a common fault or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Almost certainly the oil seal at the output end of the crankcase. It's not difficult to change the seal but you need to separate engine from gearbox to do it. If doing that, which may need the engine to come out, I would certainly change the front seal at the same time and maybe check a few other areas that could be showing signs of age.

If its low down I agree its the grankcase seal, but check if its from the breather, of the relief valve, or the turbocharger
