Oil Lamp

As suggested on my winch thread, this is a new thread for a lamp identification:

The attached pictures are of an oil lamp: It has 'ENGLISH MADE 3/4 IN W' on the Wick adjuster but no other identifying marks that I can see. I am looking for a matching one.

The lamp pictured used to be one of a pair but the other has disappeared. There are some similar on classic boat parts and other websites but none like this with 4 'glass retaining prongs' and the same shape gimble mount.

Has anybody any ideas?

It's what is generally known as a Queen Anne burner. There were many different makers. You are unlikely to find a good match made today. Weems & Plath make something similar but at an eye-watering price - and not a match.

It is worth contacting Mike at Base Camp, but he is unlikely to be able to sell you a lamp. You would be more likely to find something nearer to your existing lamp by keeping a watch on eBay.

Really pleased I had a look at this thred!! I am no use in terms of identification but I have a lamp very similar if not the same as the one in the picture.

I need to get a new glass for it, any suggestions where I should use?

I have 2 identical brass finished ones on board and have decided to electrify them with led lamps but I have no idea of the manufacturer.
They'll be as old as the boat - 32years so the manufacturer may be long gone.

Why on earth would you do that? The light thrown out by an oil lamp is infinitely nicer than that of LEDs and is even less of a drain on the batteries. It's not like paraffin is expensive either.

We have a pair of those. I wouldn't really recommend them. They are cheap, but they feel cheap and they are a nightmare to set up properly. The old ones that these replaced were much brighter and burned longer. Unfortunately, like the O.P. we had a pair and lost one.

If you are going to electrocute them could I suggest that you do so in a non-destructive way? There are many people who like to use oil lamps, and one of the saddest sights is a lamp with a hole drilled in the tank to poke a wire up the middle of the trashed burner. Alternatively, you could buy the cheap tat that Nauticalia sells (cheap? - well, half the price of Weems & Plath), electrocute those, and sell your second-hand lamps to the two people on this thread who have each lost one of a pair - you might even make a profit.

No, I am not modifying them, just replacing the wicks with multiple leds - though I have yet to try them.

If the result is naff I'll refit the wicks but not use them (don't like the fumes) other than for decorative effect.
