having being fleeced on Fleece bay for a Suzuki DT85 outboard motor that was fecked, i have since replaced the Power Head.

I was wondering, to prevent a repeat of oil delivery problems (which i am told these engines are plagued by), i was considering premixing the oil + fuel.

Does anyone know if this would have any detrimental effect on engine running? Carburation?
Would it not gum up the carb jets causing blockage + further hassle?

Any thoughts appreciated.

I would expect it to be a disaster - fixed premix combined with an unknown variable oil injection contribution............. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

were you planning to match the premix to idle or WOT settings? These engines are set up to have a variable oil ratio depending on revs as I understand it.

I would get the oil injection sorted.

We had an Evinrude 90 hp, with oil injection that gave us trouble, so we blocked it off and mixed the oil into tank it worked fine, but I am talking 25 years back, cannot speak for the up to date engines.

Back to your original problem. Bill Higham who knows a thing or two about outboards told me that he was running short of trade-ins as everyone seemed to be buying cash/outright. He bought some on E-bay to bolster his 2nd hand stock and every one was rubbish. He reckoned they were mainly sold by people knowing (but denying) that they had problems. Luckily he can either fix them or use them for spares.

as cilla would say..............surprise surprise

in practice as well as theory you can return goods purchased via ebay but few bother. As far as I am concerned if someone says it's ok and it isn't I pop back for a word...........

Well this engine is a 1984 model + it would be 50:1 premixed as in WOT.

Duncan, why would you expect it to be a disaster? The oil system failing and wrecking THIS engine is a disaster!

As far as returning it, that wouldnt be financialy viable distance wise. In any case, the seller is no longer a registered Ebay User.

The boat was collected from a storage yard (and not his house) so i doubt his contact details were genuine anyway.

In retrospect, at the time of sale he very kindly knocked of 50 quid for our travelling costs. Was this to make himself feel better with a guilty concience as my wife + 3yr old daughter was present too, knowing he was doing us over?
