My mates rather old 4 cylinder ford marine diesel engine, smokes fairly badly, has emulsified oil in the rocker box and one of the valves is jammed shut.
On closer inspection the push rod for that valve was badly bent. The yachtmaster who'd motored the boat down from teddington to dover had said a tapping noise was normal for the engine.
That said, my thoughts were that this is down to a leaking/blown head gasket and corrosion jamming the valve shut. We'll be taking it to bits over the week. Does anyone have any other ideas; apart from a cracked cylinder head which i don't think/ really hope it isn't.
During running you can see a fine trickle of water coming out of the rocker box.

Cracked head almost certainly. Thats the only way water can come from the rocker box from what I remember of the old Ford I had 15 years ago.

Unless someone knows otherwise!
