What would the panel recommend for the removal of a small amount of engine oil that has found its way to the bilge? Rags? Paper towels? Disposable kitchen mop? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Please don'r ask how it got there - suffice to say it was not me! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

pampers? yes i'll repeat it again, just incase you misread it, pampers or any disposable nappy, it will soak up all the oil and water and into a nice non drip way, easy to dispose of into a plastic bag and off the boat without spilling oil and water around the boat or on the hands..

works everytime....

I used one of those devices for sucking oil out of engine sumps. A Pela or something like that. Once you've got as much as you can out with that you can wipe it up or use bilge cleaner liquid.

I'm a Nappy user too /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

They work really well

Cheers Joe

Hi Pinnacle,
Yup, pampers are great, or the own brand ones.
Another option for the dregs is to pour a couple of cups of washing machine powder down the bilge, get the hose out or the buckets, hot water is best, give them a good scrub then pump out, there wont even be an oily sheen on the surface..
We have a normal dripping stern gland and always a small amount of water in the bilge, I always have a tad of detergent in there too (washing powder), breaks the oil up fine.

Thanks guys - pampers ( or own brand! ) it is. May also give the washing powder trick a go too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pampers are great but unless you have another use for them, you will find that they come in industrial volumes. If you know of anyone with an infant it may be better to deal for two or three, or however many you think you may need to mop up your small spill. The last time I used them, being a meanie, I bought a pack of newborn size, but they were really too small.
