Oil filters - by-pass relief valves

The company I worked for no longer exists......... so my OEM knowledge would not help you now, but Fram and Mann are or were separate companies with their own individual factories , with respect to Halfords I don't know who makes for them but I have no reason to think they would not be fit for purpose.

However if you were thinking that you need to have peace of mind of what you are fitting then the OEM product would be the one to fit....but you will pay more ........

In the days I am speaking of we would look at other peoples budgets products some of the more obscure could be quite shockingly badly made when you looked inside.

In my mind the paper element type are old school type of oil filter that would typically be seen on classic and vintage cars . I cant say I have seen the oil filter on the last several cars I have owned .

Thanks Freebee- some valuable insights. I could probably get away with using the 8 PSI filters I have installed given that there will not be much of a season this year methinks. However, for peace of mind I am going to change them for MANN filters if I can find a way of determining that the VP filters fitted to KAD44s have by-pass relief valves set to 16.5 PSI and I can get the comparable MANN filter.

Its the other way round, engines started with loose filter elements and moved to spin on for ease of servicing.

I service a lot of road vehicles, and can say there are way more paper ones than metal type.
Cummins are still mainly spin on, but the ones we see are small engines (6.7litre) all the trucks are paper type.

It maybe in the realms of confidentiality but did your company make for say Volvo Penta, FRAM, MANN, Halfords etc and would the Halford equivalent for Volvo Penta have the correct valve pressure setting for VP

i believe all halfords stuff come from eurocarparts?

The point about spring fatigue in the filter housing is a valid one. I have seen several engines worn by dirty oil due to this. I used to do away with the valve on engines I built. Change the filters regularly!

With 63ps ?
