Oil/filter change necessary?

Change it!!!! both Oil & Filters.... false economy not to...

Compare it with something else ... I have taken delivery of my filters and just ordered 60 Litres of straight SAE 40 for the change....and I carry at least 20 Litre onboard "just in case"..... still changing oil each year is a lot cheaper than a rebuild...

i normally keep sufficient Oil & filters o/b for a service @ any time + fuel filters of course ;)

well done ludd, correct answear. Beaing a marine mechanic i would change all fillters and oil at least once a year, regardless of engine use! Look after your engine and she will look after you!

Are you saying that you would change the oil and filters yearly if the engine hadn't run at all, and also if had done 5,000 hours ("regardless of engine use")?

If it hasn't been used very much, though, it's just oil. Would you be worried about oil that had been in store for sixteen months.

In this case, I can't see any need to change at all.

The engine did ten hours on it---enough to pick up any **** ithe sump and absorb a bit of chemical gunge.
If oil cost £100 a litre I could see the problem, but we're talking peanuts here!

if i only used the engine once a year, yes i would. if i had not used the engine for 3 years, i would then change stuff at the point of me going to use it. when you have seen engines go wrong you will understand the need for this

Does not add up!

Oil change every 100 hours; oil filter and oil change every 250 hours - according to the Yanmar 3YM handbook.

I'm sure all engine manufacturers have their own periodicity, I'd suggest you contact yours.

Third lot of oil only does 50 hours!

On my 3YM20 I change oil and filter every 100 hours but I do not buy oil or filter from Yanmar agent!
