My Beta 13.5hp engine has a little too much oil in but I do not want to undo the sump plug because however delicately it is treated it always lets no oil out until whump! the whole lot drops. So I bought a manual oil pump, one of those brass ones with plastic tubes, but the tube will not pass down the dip stick tube. Can someone suggest a tube which will be slightly smaller and hard enough to take the strong suction?

When you say the tube does not pass down the dip stick tube, do you mean it doesn't fit it at all, or goes in a little way before sticking?

On my Volvo 2001, the plastic tube only goes an inch or two down the dipstick hole, but the pump has enough suction to draw the oil up from the sump........ especially with warm oil and the filler cap off. Just make sure the tube is pushed in as far as it will go, and it should work fine.

Try your local pub...the plastic pipes used for the co2 gas for the beer is about the right size and is hard.. (note ..not beer hose, before someone tries to contradict )

I'm a bit baffled by this as the brass hand pumps usually come with quite thin tubes. How far in does it go before it sticks?

Note the restraint with which I avoid asking whether you forgot to remove the ....

The little brass pump I have came with two suction tubes and an rubber adaptor. One tube is around 5mm ø the other around 8mm ø.
The pela pump has a fine extention tube similar to the outer of a bowden cable and again around 5~6 mm ø.

Does it have a dedicated drain pipe elsewhere on the engine? My Volvo has one on the side of the engine as well as the dipstick pipe.
Worth a look. It will have a cap on it.

I have this trouble using suction tube via the dipstick tube.
I actually remove the dipstick tube and insert suction tube direct thru the block.
Notwithstanding that a bit of 3mm copper will probably do the trick .. a bit slow .. you need warm oil
