Dear Forum members,

See attached picture. How do I use this pump to drain the oil? I cant find the handgrip that probably should sit on the pump? What should it look like? How should it work, can I kind of pump up and down, or should it rotate to create suction and extract the oil.

Please help. Have searched this forum and everywhere to understand how it is supposed to work. I understand many bigger marine engines have this system and it is supposed to be really practically to change oil in engine and gear box ....

Handles missing .I will try and find a pic ( if the forum IT allows me to post )
The little handle under is the selector .
Vertical like now is closed
Forwards is the engine sump - the pipe goes to where a sump plug would be .
Backwards is the gearbox - yes you can drain the gbox too .

Once you find the handle and fit it it moves back and forth ,think of a clock from about 9 to 3 ,it’s pretty fast .

It is there somewhere ! just means lifting all floor panels, or finding a spare.
Think of the posts you have read that start " I found this under my " what is it
happy hunting

Thank you Portofino.

Get it.

OK I need to find the handle. But I have looked around the engine room and around the boat, but nowhere. What should it look like? If you have a picture it would be much appreciated.

Could I use something else? Looks like a cone, but a square one. I guess I could use a pipe wrench or something but would likely ruin the metal/axis that goes out from the pump...

Thanks a lot for pic etc Portofino!

OK I know what to look for now. Must find it. Seems like a very good setup to drain the oil from the bottom of the sump.

What about TWO pics, instead? :)
Just taken for you, in order to highlight one peculiarity:
The shaft where you must fit the handle in order to use the pump has a square section, but it gets narrower towards its end.
If you look carefully, you can see that also in the second of the pics you posted in your OP.
Consequently, also the hole on the handle is asymmetrical - spot the difference between the two pics below!
Unless you can find it somewhere, in your boots I don't think I'd bother making a replacement from scratch, and I'd rather buy the real thing.
You only need one btw, since you can't do both engines simultaneously anyway.

MapisM thank you for pics! Yes I get the unusual assymetrical shape of the handle. I will search again to find it.
But if I can't find it where can I buy one? Have no clue what the name of the pump etc is, can't find anything on it.

Strangely I have 3 .Two attached permantly use a nyclic nut so they don,t vibrates off - see my pic , and a spare in the MAN tool box .
Unfortunately I won,t be at the boat for while .
I,ve used these guys for Internet spares ,they ship world wide .
PME group in Plymouth/ Poole .But there’s plenty of MAN agents about .

Apologies to yossy for the slight o/t, but maybe he's also interested:
May I ask you (and also any other MAN-powered members) which MAN tools is your boat equipped with, exactly?
Unfortunately, the previous owner of my boat was not very technically minded to say the least, and the above handle is actually the only bit of kit I found onboard... :ambivalence:
Just one btw, 'cause there weren't any attached to the pumps - though actually that makes some sense with my engines, because there are some hoses in that area which could chafe against the handle, if left in place.

I seem to have the contents of page 124 pics and listed on page 125

Sorry I could not work out how to screen shot those two only .

I,ve also got some hefty prop knut spanner’s , spare prop knots and a spare set of props .
Some spare injectors still in packages and some other stuff .
They are all in a metal tool box
