Oh and who sold you my address?? I certainly have never used your crappy service or even visited your waste of webspace.

swivel!

Agreed got it this morning. I've had several other marine themed "spam" e-mail recently too.

The common link seems to be we all post on here, but perhaps its an on-line swindlery or dealer. Perhaps Keith can confirm IPC's position on this.

I got the same spam to my work email. I can assure you IPC will never sell your email addresses to third party companies if you've ticked the box that says something along the lines of "IPC may occasionally pass your details to carefully selected organisations so they can contact you by telephone or email with regards to promoting and researching their products and services. Tick here if you prefer not to be contacted"

If we had sold those details (and as far as I know we have zero contact with this particular Co.) the director in charge of data- protection can go to prison, so not only would it be bad practice there's a real incentive not to do it!

Yes, I got it too. Looks like it was sent from phonesint.com (at least 81.144.249.244 is registered to them). The phonesint website goes to here - which seems to be something to do with one of the guys from Dragons Den.

The link in the spam points to http://squaremile.boatscrubber.com/ - so I wonder if they've used the Square Mile user list? I know I had a Square Mile account - did you?

Its all a bit too cosy isn't it? Especially as Square Mile sold a chunk to one of the other guys on Dragons Den.

Either way, I won't be using this company if this is their marketing tactics. Spammers are scum particularly as (unlike direct mail) they do not pick up the fair costs of delivering their [--word removed--].

But that's because the only people who've mentioned it on here are people who post on here...

I'm an occasional poster, but I haven't received that particular bit of spam, so it looks like Keith is in the clear!

By the way, can I interest anyone in viagra? or cialis? or advertising your website to 8,000,000 people for free ??? Thought not...

yup I too have square mile.

What annoys me now is that I have a separate address I use for on-line shopping and the like, if it ever gets spammed I can easily close it down. But oh! I trusted my details to square mile when signing up for the none trial, it never worked in Pwllheli until they started charging.

Another reason to stay away from Square Mile. Can anyone remember if we had to send our postal address, can I now expect more junk like the catalogues from American chandlers that I have never contacted or mail-shots from RNLI offshore.

The whole corporate ethic of banging your name everywhere is turning us into America and I don't like it, especially when companies are abusing my trust.

I knew it was not IPC, different email address see, I have one just for you.

Makes sorting my in box much simpler.

I also sign up for the YBW newsletter, you see, there are some mail shots I do want, it is these unsolicited ones that get my goat.

I haven't got a Square Mile account and haven't got the spam. Doesn't positively prove anything - to move towards that we need somebody who got the spam but DOESN'T have a SQ mile account

IPC not guilty

I post (and am registered ) here but have not had the email. Haven't bought chandlery online except from Classic Marine and don't subscribe to Square Mile.
