The ban is in place and the reason I oppose it (and will continue to do so) has nothing to do with being for or against hunting - I object on the grounds that Teflon Tony had to invoke the Parliament Act in order to bring about this "law" and thus he actually bypassed the normal democratic process because had he not done so, the House Of Lords would have delivered a response he didnt want.
I also object on the grounds that this ridiculous piece of legislation has taken up such inordinate amounts of time and consideration whilst British troops were sent to their deaths in Iraq on the basis of a lie and thousands of innocent civilians were slain in the pursuit of a freedom which Teflon Tone and Gung-Ho George havent got a clue how to deliver.

We do seem to have entered a strange new world. Children can no longer get a cuff round there ear for being naughty. Even though they now take knives to school. Foxes cannot be hunted. By these rules, little Sadam could not get a clout when in his younger days, he started to get a bit naughty. But it's quite Ok to bomb, maim and kill half the population of Iraq, because of a spurious fable about him.
I find it hard to comprehend, how the same government can be against smacking, but bombing is OK!!

I disagree with you, particularly when you confuse your personal opinions with moral absolutes.
To anthropromorphise for a second, if I were a fox I think I would prefer the chance to escape at the risk of a more grisly death than to accept certain death via a shotgun.
This argument is nothing to do with foxes and all about one group of people not liking what another group do and rather than tolerate them, they must be banned. To my mind, tolerance is the only solution in a civilised society, but this issue is far too emotive for many to consider toleration, sadly.
I wonder how long before bull-fighting is banned? Probably never as it is an integral part of glorious Spanish culture whereas hunting is just blood thirsty idiots enjoying the death of an animal? Black and white just doesn't work with situations like this I'm afraid.

well I totally agree with you, and quite a few other complaints re teflon tone, I just cannot understand why, oh why, people just don't see whats going on. in the paper today was a quote from a fox hunter "if I had a turban on and claimed hunting was part of my culture then no probs". very unfortunately this is true, and we are in danger of making a lot of the non racist population, racist, because of our totally non democratic & insane government.
Fox hunting should not be that big an issue, in view of what else is going on

Is there a ban on hunting with dogs? Apparently its OK to chase a fox with hounds but you have to shoot it before the dogs tear it to pieces. So, whats the difference? None as far as I can see. A monumental waste of Parliament's time just to sate a few unreconstructed class warriors and, worse, a total waste of Plod time when they should be out catching real criminals like speeding motorists and grocers selling carrots in lbs/oz
