Oh my God, They\'ve lost me Mains\'l!

Just phoned the sail loft to get my mains'l back and its gone missing!

Now I've heard about socks going missing in the wash, but not a Main off a 36footer!

Thank God they are not trying to excuse themselves, and I have faith that all will be well as they are a very good loft, either they find it or we sort out somthing, but still a bit of a shock as I've got the 1st week of April off to go sailing.....

Actually she goes quite well on just the genoa and mizzen.......

Hope they find it. Otherwise you'll be checking every Mains'l that goes past on the Solent!

Don't worry, this weekend or next, someone will lovingly unwrap their(?) sail and be back in there Monday like a shot.

Re: Oh my God, They\'ve lost me Mains\'l!

Not the same lot that lost three of our sails a couple of years ago!
Found out eventually that their carrier never delivered them to the sail loft but as around 3 months had elapsed the trail was cold.(dont believe any carrier that claims to have track/trace systems).
After several months of prevarication by the sail makers who wanted us to pay the majority of the cost of replacement (these were for a 60ft classic yacht and lots
of £££s) I got a phone call from a second hand dealer who had brought a load of lorry covers at the carrier's auction of undelivered stuff and on opening of the bags found our sails and the enclosed letter from us with the sailmaker's instructions! My phone number on the letter was used to contact me!
I believe that the sailmaker and the carrier shared the cost of buying the sails back from the 2nd hand dealer but we got no compensation from anyone for the delay to our sailing season and as a club running a classic boat the loss of internal income from members was not recovered.
No-one accepted any blame, not the sailmaker who did not check that the sails had arrived and only looked for them when we asked for the repaired sails back nor the carrier who, having failed to deliver them, sold the bag contents off without opening them up. During the discussions over who should pay for the replacement sails, the sailmaker pleaded poverty but the following season moved into new premises with brand new computerised sailmaking equipment.
God I'm glad I've got that off my chest!

Re: Funny you should

say that. When I nipped into my sailmakers the other day he told me they were frantically looking for a customers main that had gone missing. I was pretty happy that it wasn't mine. Now I'm sorry that it might have been yours. What are they offering to do to sort it out?

Re: Oh my God, They\'ve lost me Mains\'l!

Sounds like a typical experience with a parcel carrier. I have used just about everyone you can think of over the years.

The only one i really trust is the one with a brown van on every street in the world.

The one who's name suggests it is secure is a nightmare.

The one that sounds like castle farce ditto.

We send out upto 30 items aday. All contain Irreplaceable items. And believe it or not I reckon good old Royal Mail are still the best.

Slightly NB I know but I could rant about parcel carriers all day. I even appeared on watch dog when one of the carriers tried subcontracting their deliveries to the local milkman!!!

If you really value something.. take it yourself.

Re: Oh my God, They\'ve lost me Mains\'l!

I had my 1st Harley delivered from the gray importer in Wiltshire up to my home in Co' Durham by T.N.T. Paid extra for overnight delivery to my door. Next day no bike, just a phone call to say it was at a depot about 30 miles away but with no one to drive the van to bring it to me, As it was a Saturday the machine could not be delivered untill at least Monday afternoon. Instead I went up to collect it only to find something heavy had been dropped on it causing several hundred pounds worth of damage. T.N.T were informed of the damage in writing on the spot and before I would take delivery. It took several months to source the replacement parts from the States. T.N.T then informed me it had taken too long and they would not pay for the repairs, As for the total failure to deliver on time and the fact that I had to collect the Bike I had paid to have delivered, T.N.T failed to respond to any of my letters regarding the refund of the extra money paid out by myself. I have no need to say "sounds like" when naming this company. They are T.N.T and in my book that spells SHITE.

Re: Brown vans

sorry I didn't make myself clear...too eager to finish work and get home.

Best pacel carrier is UPS, if you can afford their prices.

But broadly speaking and for packets royal mail get my vote.

But RM price themselves out of the big parcel market...

as do parcel force who regularly put the price of their 48 hr service up so much that it is cheaper to send first class RM.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I knew what I meant. :)
