Oh Dear! Rowers again...

Inappropriate time and place, Richard? IMHO, anyway.

What can I say....its just another, rowers vs mobo owners thread that ultimately will go no where..

We all have a responsibility to use the river correctly and we know that some don't but that's life....and life is too short.

Personally when I hear stories of 35 ton barges being thrown about and women nearly falling off bathing platforms due to wash it does make me wonder how we all get by in every day life....Was it REALLY that bad? Was there REALLY any damage, did anyone die?

Just my opinion..

Like others, and just as I observed in an earlier post, I can see why you might choose to interpret this as 'just another robo v Mobo' thread. But in doing so, i think you are mistaken and are trivialising a serious show of very poor behaviour as has been reported quite specifically by several witnesses.

I frankly cant be bothered either with the usual robo v mobo twaddle, but as i say, in this case we are referring to a very specific set of incidents, concerning a particular group (not rowers in general). And to answer your questions: yes it really was that bad. No, nobody died, and I really don't know if any damage was caused (e.g. To cleats when mooring lines were snatched, or to gel coat when oars and rowboat bows were smacked against boat sides) but suspect not, though it clearly could have been worse.

In summary, serious enough for me to complain direct to the EA, something I have never done before. I am optimistic that they in turn will also be taking this very seriously too, they certainly appear to be doing so.

I do think that we all get your points. Clearly you, and the others, are very annoyed by what you saw.

I am not condoning the irresponsible behaviour that you have mentioned, and doubt that any other responsible boat user is.

You have taken your complaint to the EA and must trust them to pass it on, as I'm sure that they will. Likewise, once it reaches the club's committee, I am sure that they will deal with it appropriately.

Now here's hoping for a 'hassle-free' rest of the sunny boating season.
