Offshore 36' fast crusier

One particular model I would really trust in F8 conditions (much more than my own Beneteau 361) is the Beneteau First 38 built in the 80's. It's not really 36 foot, neither 38. It's in fact 40 feet (and I don't know about the price).
These boats are REALLY strong, have a very healty ballast ratio (around 40%) and a deep 2.10m keel. No matter how hard you press them, these boats seem that they never round up. I personally find them very touch and reliable in those conditions.

Being shorthanded personally I'd be looking for the following in a fast cruiser:

1. Easily balanced boat to sail with little weather helm - allows you to move about the boat more easily whilst maintaining course

2. Easily driven hull off the wind - again easier to helm but excludes many older designs especially IOR derived.

3. Fractional rig without runners - easier to tack (a 150% masthead No 1 sail is a pain even on a fully crewed yacht to tack) and the spinnaker is not so large as equivalent masthead when off the wind and therefore easier for shorthanded crew.

Based on that and some of these have already been mentioned:

Jeanneau JOD35
MG 335/346 (essentially the same boat but very easy to balance under sail and were very competitive under handicap)
Sigma 36
First 35s5
