Off to the boat shortly, father in laws 70th so an inlaw day on the boat.

Hoping for some sunny weather, then Mon and Tues at work and then a week off hurrah and off on our annual cruise up from Temple this time towards oxford, may even splash out on a meal at the bettle and wedge on the way up.

Byron will drop you a text when we are close ish if your around for a cup of tea (well beer for me lol)

Hope to see some forumites around and about.

Just my luck Byron that would have been great

Well day with the inlaws was pretty ok,(although I did have a headache and not through beer, man they are loud lol) although the weather was not as good as today, river was quiet. When we got back I noticed a great deal of water in the normally bone dry bilges. so think may have a leak through the seal where the steering arm goes to the stern drive or somthing (confused of the inept mechancially briage lol) had it about a year ago when we had 8 people on the boat, hmmm. Anyhow in prep for the (please dont let the boat mechanics ruin our week off again, says the wife, holiday) I contacted (new to me simon Bull to have a look at it tomorrow....seem like a decent chap on the phone, anyone know him?

So all going well (and I now have an excuse to be at the boat tomorrow to meet him) we will head of early wednesday, cant wait

Worth checking it's not an engine water hose leaking into the boat too!

Remember the Birchwood can also leak via the Sunroof, through the floor gaps. That got me a few time before I realised....

Thanks No Regrets

Yep checked the hoses, the roof luckily right now doesn't leak although the water as with all bicrhwoods sits on the roof and gets you as you climb on board lol, bet the designer is still laughing at that one.

It has only ever happened when the baoat is well loaded at the stern with people, the bottom corner fender is under the water then hmmm but cant see that much water getting in through a screw thread.

Hopefully we will suss it today, after I pumped it out and mopped it up yesterday it has been dry as a bone, although we did not go out on her, bit like going to the dentist then your tooth stops hurting lol

Get one of those extending wash brooms and wedge it between the deck and the centre of the canopy - brush end up so you wont cause any damage to the canopy - when you leave the boat. That will stop the puddle developing.

Dont be so sure - you'd be surprised how much water can get through a screw-hole over a period of time.

Thanks Boat one

The Birchwood has a hard top, so it sits on the roof and has to be brushed off after rain

Will take at look again at the screws

Yep, an irritating feature of the B25, in fact one of the very few, was the 'roof which collects an inch of water' design...

They actually suffer osmosis on the bloody roof, the water lies on them for such a long time in each year!

Less water ingress than a floppy hood nevertheless, but not up to the 100% waterproof design of our beloved No Regrets (Final edition...) Broom.

The inside is drier than a Nuns vag....no on second thoughts...let's just say it's 'very dry'

Simon Bull came out as promised and confirmed what I thought that it is the seal where the steering arm goes through to the stern Drive. Simon said its a 5 min job and the seal not a lot of money but unfortunately it's a boat out of the water job. Damn and double damn lol.

So as it is a slow ingress and only when weigted down with 6 or 7 people we have a small bilge pump ready and will keep a close eye as we take here up river this week.

I saw this problem years ago at St Kat's. About ten of us and a German Shepherd crowded on the bow while it was fixed. Took about 30 minutes and was the cause a great hilarity and provided an excellent photo shoot for the Tourists.

I knew

I knew i should have come to your BBQ lol, we could have utilised the villages and fixed it then and there :-)

Hope to see you in a few days Byron
