Going with with RCC in two groups, the fast lot and the slow lot.................No sniggering about which group we are going in.
About 20 boats in all and have just found out that boats from an upriver bunch..... East Farleigh Cruising Club have got the same plan.
Another forumite Unit18 was also going that weekend, but appeared too have second thoughts when he found out we were going.
All down to weather of course,Mr & Mrs Oldgit do not do weather so the slighest hint of a stiff breeze or white horses at Sheerness and its back home and in front of the tele. :)

A wise plan. I've been round North Foreland in an unforecasted F5/6 and it was bloody uncomfortable!

Byrons passage plan limit of F1 and moderating, outlook better .....is good enough for me.
Oldgits idea of rough weahter.

I been round N Foreland so many times they were considering re-naming it Byron's Nose. I have seen it like a mill pond and once went out in the Pilot Cutter when it was so bad I feared for my delicate sweet little body. Gale Force 1 moderating is definitely the only way.

Back in the days when I used to come round to the Medway regularly, I had a recurring nightmare. In this dream, I was on the boat and woke up suddenly to a tap-tap-tapping sound. When I looked out of the window, I could see that the boat had broken loose and drifted and the tapping was us gently nudging one of the yellow buoys that surround the Montgomery! Huge relief when I really woke up and found it wasn't true! :)

Beam sea all the way to Ramsgate last time we went, used Prince's Channel rather than the overland route as we expected the sea to be a little kinder in the deeper bits. The picture of one of our club was later described as "Bismarck foundering in rough weather. Not fun. But it can be like glass too!"

In rougher weather I find the overland route is calmer due to protection from the land and the Margate Sands. If my eyes don't deceive me that is a Coronet 32 of 1970s vintage. In rough weather they seem more sea kindly if the speed is kept up.

"Beam sea all the way"

Not bloody likely..thats back to the clubhouse weather. :)
Or at the least a sneak up into Faversham creek to use (Mainship)Toms luverly peaceful mudberth surrounded by more pubs that you can shake a stick at.

That sounds like a lot of fun in its own right, wouldn't mind trying it some time. Never been to Fav by boat, too chicken:-)

Early as possible as soon as you have enough water in the creek and you can easily see the channel and the mudbanks, thing which always bothered me,was if somebody was coming out early and you meet halfway how do you pass..Still its all soft gooey mud all the way in and they manage to get coasters and barges up there all the time.

Once bitten twice shy, its a bit of a dump this year club and pubs etc good as always. inner harbour seems to have turned into a sewage farm holding tank, wind farm boats speeding thru the harbour and if your are late, the east marina is a nightmare. Some plonker in planning is now the harbourmaster and its going to rack and ruin.
