So there we were, our first trip to the LIBS (probably last), "look at that" I said, "What are Victoria Wine doing at the LIBS?" of course it was'nt, it was the combined YM and PBO stand, somewhere behind the bottles of Kumala.

So is our favorite boaty mag trying to encourage drinking and sailing? Or have they gone into the wine import business to boost revenue?

As you probably know, YM and the other IPC titles have run subs promotions using alcoholic beverages at shows for at least 10 years, so to that extent, there was nothing different this year. Most readers find this quite acceptable - to say the least, since the value of the offer has recently almost exceded the cost of the minimum number of issues which have to be bought.

This year, as at Southampton, we offered the extra bonus of being able to sample the wine before buying a sub and also of buying different and extra bottles if you felt like it. I'm sorry you felt the stand looked like an offie, but it was only one corner that was devoted to the offer.

James,

Out of interest what is the transaction cost of setting up a new subscription for IPC?

It seems to me that you encourage cancellations over subs renewals. How's about providing a loyalty bonus otherwise eventually we are all going to be cancelling right before Southampton or London

There is no real criticism, I usually cancel my subs before the show so I can take advantage of the free booze with a renewal, forgot this year so missed out! Dam it!
