Just printed up my new, free ships licence using the ofcom online system. Yes it works, yes it took time and included an exchange of regular mail for the registration, but its a sound idea.

For the love of God which muppet is consulting them on website usability? I do this sort of stuff for a living and the Ofcom website is just an embarassment to the industry!

Isn't it odd how most departments, companies and institutions with 'communications' as part of their title or remit just have no idea of how to communicate properly!

The name that appears on the title bar is Siebel eSales. I dont know if they wrote the soft ware or merely supplied it but last time I mentioned the name the comments were not too good!

I hope all those who feel that the online procedures are poor have emailed their comments to Ofcom. Despite getting my licence I did

Have to confess our licence came through very easily (no problems with the website) - we may have been lucky though!
Although I do agree - the user interface is pretty poor - surely 30 mins spent on MS Publisher would produce a better site!!

We have to suffer some Siebel crap at work. The most dreadful example of web2.0 ever. Can't have 2 browser windows open on the site concurrently and it often refuses to allow you to login (claiming you already have a window open, but don't). I could go on, but fortunately after enough complaints they gave us the cli tool back....
