OfCom charging for radio use?

I might be late on this, but don't see it among the recent threads:

Seems that OfCom have published proposals to charge for use of the radio band we use for maritime radios.

I'm assuming this means that in addition to the licence fee, we'll need to pay to actually broadcast?

Thoughts?

The ships radio licence is free now! As long as you apply or renew on line.

Shows how long it is since I had to renew the licence.

Next year I'll be doing it again, since I've taken over full ownership and management.

I think this is the critical statement:

"As set out in July 2008, we are not proposing any change from the current licence fees for ship radio licences"

This quote is from the actual document, as I understand it the fees are about Port channels commercial users, etc.,

Ofcom

Having just purchased another boat that had been previously registered in France I was not looking forward to applying for a new licence from Ofcom, however I started it online and with one phone query that was picked up and answered immediately I was more than impressed, they also advised what to do with EPIRB registry. The application was submitted at 13.00hrs today and by 13.10hrs I had comfirmation of license, new call sign and MMSI number.

PS Just had e-mail confirmation of EPIRB re-registration
