Ofcom and radio amendments. I\'m going crazy!!!!

Has anyone ever tried to amend thier license details online???
I bet no one has!!
Take it from me... it's IMPOSSIBLE
I've spent at least two hours trying to do it... and I'm on the verge of getting HYSTERICAL!!!!!!!!!

I can get to the page where one changes or adds detail but from there on ... feck knows. The 'done' button doesn't do anything particular. The 'finish' button is inoperative. The 'save' button and the 'verify' button have no effect. I'm locked into the page with no escape.
PLEASE ... for the sake of my sanity... does anyone one know the secret to this HIDEOUS freakin' site!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Ofcom and radio amendments. I\'m going crazy!!!!

Worked OK for me adding deleting an old VHF & adding a VHF/DSC including MMSI number and then adding a handheld VHF.

Assuming you have an account and are logged in:

Go to the Licence Summary page

Click on Edit

Make the changes you need

Click on Validate

Then you can download the licence in pdf form and print it out.

Hope this helps

I've come across some Govt sites that are designed round microshaft software and when using other browsers, the buttons dont work. Could that be your prob? If so log in using IE

Re: Ofcom and radio amendments. I\'m going crazy!!!!

I updated my details yesterday with no problem even got an MMSI number but when I wanted to download the new licence it all went pear shaped /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.
Then a quick search back through the forum produced the answer, security in IE7 is the problem see the fix here curtesy of BrendenS

Re: Ofcom and radio amendments. I\'m going crazy!!!!

Didn't work for me last year when I tried to add a handheld to the list. At the end of the process, I was not sure anything had been communicated. A few days later the licence came back with a DSC set added. I wrote to them pointing out the error and got a very sniffy reply to the effect that that was what I had input via the website. At the end of using the website I had no idea what I had sent as it does not tell you and ask for confirmation. Terrible site.

Re: Ofcom and radio amendments. Sanity returns!!

What would we do without this forum???
Chrisb200 has solved the mystery. Well done to you!!
Although my problem wasn't with downloading the pdf, his comments about the browser rang bells. So.....
I accessed it via Internet Explorer ( I usually access via AOL), and behold!!...
IT WORKED ...a treat...first time ...no messing. Completely different page layouts, buttons that were there on AOL (but didn't work), weren't there on IE. A whole new vista!!

So a big big thanks to him...and to all the other spendid chaps who chucked in thier twopenn'th worth.
Alls right with the world,... let joy be unbounded....and if anyone else is having problems with the site.... try using internet explorer.

Has anyone ever tried to amend thier license details online

[/ QUOTE ] Yes no bother, at least to add equipment. Changing an address was another thing though and I still have to sort that out. (somehow my address is wrong, totally unknown to me , in "my details" but correct on the licences I hold.)

To add/ change equipment you have to select your licence, work right through the whole thing. Add the details of new stuff, put the details of stuff you are deleting in the trash can. Go right to the end using the "next page" button and on the last page hit "save licence details". That takes you back to the beginning from where you select your now amended licence download and print it BUT if you are using IE & you must follow the advice about default security settings that are on the OFCOM site before you logged in to the Siebel e Sales rubbish.

Don't get to worked up about it PHONE THEM everyone reports good helpful service on the phone. I think they are well used to the problems people have with the online system>

Re: Ofcom and radio amendments. I\'m going crazy!!!!

I did it recently, only took a couple of minutes, no problems.

I phoned beforehand because I wasn't sure about which details to use, and they were extremely efficient, helpful, professional & fast to reply via email with the relevant information.

Re: Ofcom and radio amendments. I\'m going crazy!!!!

Brendan, if you have some spare moments to fritter away take a look at the procedures for change of address, on the "My details page" not on the licences themselves, although they do have to be separately amended.

I have found my way round the On line application and defended it against excessive criticism on many occasions however the "change of address" has more less beaten me.
Partly for fun and partly to find out how it worked following a question on here some while ago I set about changing my address and changing it back again. I did change it but I ran into terrible trouble changing it back again. I ended up with an address totally unknown to me which then stuck fast! I tried many times over several months to put things right and until recently nothing happened when low and behold it changed to another address also totally unknown to me!
After many more attempts I managed to change it back to my correct address. I'll not fool around with it again!

Don't waste to much time on it and be prepared to end up as I did. I know you like a challenge though.

All through this the address details on the licences (A Ships licence and a "T-number" licence) were unaffected.

I think it is more or less accepted that a password change is not possible but my serious advice to anyone wanting to register a change of address would be to avoid the online procedure and to do it by post, phone, email or carrier pigeon.

Re: Ofcom and radio amendments. I\'m going crazy!!!!

I think that's one challenge I'll give a miss, as I could be at it for months and little chance of getting the system changed if it really is difficult to do, and buggy.

On the password side, they do say that they can reset it for you if you contact them
"If you mislay or forget your password you can contact Ofcom and provided you can supply the correct answer to the challenge questions you supplied as part of the registration process, we will be able to remind you of your password or reset it."

[/ QUOTE ] Shame on you!

I just had a look at the password thinghy. It looks as though it might now be active. I have not tried it though. I am quite happy with the one I have, I choose it afterall!

There is someone around though who was allocated a password by Ofcom, following some cockup with his details, that he does not like.

Now is the time to try again to change it if you are around!
