I purchased Odorloos to make my holding tank smell a fresh. The instructions on the product are brief to say the least. Before I do the wrong thing could someone advise how they use this product. Just heard too many seal damage stories to just batter on without checking.

If you're worried about seals then put it directly into the tank via the deck fitting rather than down the toilet. Just be aware that if you've been using chemical blue or similar products in the past, it may take a few cycles of the tank before the Odorloss starts to work.

Daft question I suspect but is the process that you empty the tank, add Odorloos and then leave it until you next empty then repeat. There are no real instructions with the product.

Are you just masking a problem. I have never had a holding tank smell on any boat.

Truthfully I'm not sure. Boat was brand new and I've had it for 2 years and without being too specific it's only ever has fluid waste. About a month ago I felt the heads was less 'fresh' than normal and when I unscrewed the outside waste cap there was a urine smell (not surprising I know). My gut reaction was to freshen the waste tank to reduce any potential bad smell in the heads hence I bought Odorloos. I'm perhaps over reacting but felt I should act before it became a 'problem/embarrassment'. That said I was away for the weekend and didn't notice any further smell but I had just done the treatment I reference above.

Fresh or seawater flush?

Fresh or seawater flush?

Seawater flush, manual Jabsco toilet with a holding tank (80 ltrs) with pump out option via deck filler cap or outlet in the bilge (wc evacuation 'seacock') holding tank vented outside the heads halfway down the boat (boat is a Merry Fisher 755). I'm used to the initial egg type smell from the seawater in the pipe when left for a few weeks but that generally clears fairly quickly and this was a less pungent smell that lingered.

Aha fair enough, I wondered if the decaying flush water smell is what you were referring to. Do you pour vinegar or hydrochloric acid down the pan periodically to combat the build-up of scale? If not - could it be that the non-return valve on the toilet waste outlet is a bit scaled up, which in turn is letting some gas vent back up from the holding tank?

Ah, I've never so you may have a good point. Assuming there isn't any issue putting vinegar through the system? How much do you recommend and how often?
