Just a quickie: does anybody know of anyone in/around the Gosport area that will take on small, annoying little maintenance jobs?

I specifically need someone to go up the mast and re-secure a wobbly VHF as well as fit a Galvanic Isolator that has been languishing in the chart table for too long. Both jobs have been waiting over a year for me to get round to doing them, so maybe I just have to accept that I'm a waster and get a proper man in!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks,

Mark

Most clubs have a ' Good Old Fred ' for this sort of thing, and marinas will usually know someone - if lucky, they might not be charging enough to fund a trip to the Bahamas just via your odd jobs !

If out on a private mooring it might be more tricky, but such people do exist, just a case of asking in the right place.

Trouble is in our current societies even the odd jobs man needs to be paid for the time he spends and the skills he needs to do the job. Which really means you might as well go for a professional electrician to do the GI and a rigger to do the mast top. If you can find someone to do it cheap you are either lucky or you only get what you pay for.
hence most of us will DIY simply becuase we do not charge ourselves for time spent on the job. Time which is actually our leisure time. (supposed to be enjoyable)
good luck olewill

I agree; and all boat yards of repute will undertake such tasks. Marinas will also recommend local trades.

What a lot of put downs. Yes there are many handy fit men around who will do the job. It is called "Helping your mates" Might be old fashioned but it is still going strong. My advice ask around no need to pay through the nose.

When I was berthed in Premier Southsea Marina, there was a great NZ guy called Scott who ran 'One Degree West', based on the site.
He did rigging & electrical repairs at Port Solent and Gosport mariners too.
Suggest you look at the Premier website for his details.
Hope this helps
