Or is it slow everywhere?

At the home marina its not bad but at Gosport and Port Solent its slower than dialup. Also could not log in to Volvo Ocean Race for 3 days at any marina, as it would not finish loading the chart. Came home to find the boat way off and lost a load of places. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Just wonder if others experience the same.

I had serious problems with them in Lowestoft & Ipswich last year.
Told them to stick their no service after a few months.....they were very generous and didnt bother to return the money I paid for something I couldnt use.....promises of free time, faster connection as compensation were worthless....frankly I am surprised they are still getting new customers.......

They have big banners at Ipswich Haven to which I am tempted to add a suitable comment....

I may be able to find the MD's-mail address if you would like to try a complaint... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I had the same as D3B.

This after orginally giving the start up Co funds in advance when they set the thing up at premier.

Had multiple service failures and in the end no returned call/ no follow-up and when two weeks to run on 12 months contract no offer of additional time to compensate above service failures voted with my feet and switched to newly started Vodafone dongle job.

This is excellent - works at fast speed in the marina ditto home etc. 3G 7.2meg - used abroad loads much cheaper than hotel BB cost

Only 2G in Swanwick and Lymington and variable in newtown ck. But a signal and internet all over the solent.

Seems that marinas, (who thought they were onto a mega money making exercise ), will find they lose most of their business to mobile broadband if they fail to provide a service - it doesnt seem to be rocket science to add a few wireless boosters, but perhaps they are too naieve or arrogant to recognise the threat..

Havent heard much about Square Mile recently?

At least with mobile broadband you can use it anywhere, and not just in the marina

Exactly. The mistake the wifi providers made was not cooperating to produce a system where ONE monthly payment would have worked at ALL access points. With vodafone I now get 7.2Mb in most populated places.

I believe the windows software for these dongles tends to report 7.2Mb/s anytime it gets an HSDPA connection - so its very misleading. Given the fuss kicked up over DSL and its 'up to 8Mb/s' claim, I'm surprised that the telcos want to go down this route.

It is a very useful service though, even if it doesn't quite deliver on the claimed speeds.

I have the Vodafone dongle and get 3G at Swanwick, on E pontoon anyway. Works really well and the deals seem to get better over time. Roaming I found very expensive though.

Thanks for all the replies, looks like a dongle for me then.

I have the internet on the cell phone so had considered this route, but expected a service provided by the marina ( and their partner) to be better.

If Premier are reading this I recommend they get out of bed with these useless providers, if they don't want to be tarred by the same brush

Cheers

If you can get it on the phone, you could probably connect the phone to the computer, and avoid the expense of a dongle. What kind of phone?

"Vodafone v1615 is therefore compatible with Vodafone's strategy because apart from HSDPA 3.6 Mbit/s that is usable on the phone itself, one can use it as an access point to the Internet - thanks to the Internet sharing application, that in integral part of Windows Mobile 6 operating system."

No problems there - an extremely capable phone.

I used to have an HTC TyTn, which I used to connect to the internet, and it was fine.... only 3G then.

Yes I use it for the internet, but the Volvo Ocean race page wont display on windows Mobile, but as you say I could use it as an access point.

Thanks
