As you may have seen form my previous posts I had some difficulty getting an order fulfilled through the Wiley Almanac Chandlery - since resolved by lots of their hard work and a refund promptly paid

So I went to Ocean Leisure on Embankment at the weekend to buy some boots.

Price on the internet £165
Price advertised in the shop £165

Price they tried to charge me £170

I did try to discuss this with the manager and point out the illegality of trying to do this, but he wasn't having it.

I'm not too worried about a fiver for heavens sake, but his attitude was unbelievable - the girl trying to serve me was almost crying with embarrassment.

For the sake of £5 he lost a sale and also lost any chance of me EVER buying anything from them again

Is it just me?

Unfortunately the price tag is not a contract as only one party has had any involvement at that part, I think it is termed 'an invitation to treat' You can them agree or walk away..

Did they refuse to sell at that price or charge you extra on your card w/out permission on a 'customer not present' basis, that would be illegal?

he refused to sell at the advertised price - he wanted me to pay £170 and got shirty when I pointed out I thought that was unreasonable since the sign in the shop said £165.

He said I could go home and buy them at £165 off their website if I wanted, so I told him I'd go home and buy them off someone elses website instead

If he'd been friendly about it I'd have probably paid, but given his attitude I thought I'd give it a miss

I just wonder how much he lost on making no sale at all due to his attitude

Anyone know just where I can get a pair of size 12 leather boots - Henri Lloyd or Gill ? Seems I'm doomed to wear wellies
