A small dilemma. We have an all elec galley. I don't want the hassle of a gen set or the servicing that goes with it as just know it will hardly get used. When on a mooring bouy we will probably eat anti pasti so no cooking, wife will drink wine, but I need tea. . So there will be the odd day when I will need to boil a kettle when not on hook up. Have had reliability issues with inverters. What would you do. Must stress this is not going to happen often so it's not a big deal. Is this as simple as an up market flask. With the speed of the new boat not likely to be on passage for more than three hours in a day anyway.

on our 28ft boat I have a 12V "spiral" water cooker,
available in car accesory shops,

or a "good quality" invertor,
fe Victron has 5y warranty

I can't think of doing without a invertor anymore,
(just for charging your Phone of PC, or .....)
on our 70ft boat we run electric zero speed stabilisers from 2 x 5KW invertors !

Positively +1 ref Victron inverters and the convenience of having 220V onboard at all times for low(ish) and/or brief loads (chargers, espresso machine, microwave...)
Otoh, strictly for the usage you are describing and for a boat like the Axopar, maybe I'd rather keep it simple and just use a 12V spiral heater like the one B described.
Unless there are also 12V kettles...? Not sure about that, you might check some caravan accessories shop.

If you really only ever will need a cup of hot water then its crazy to turn 12v into 240v +_waste heat then into heat in a kettle. There are 12v kettles but they are a bit naff. So. Make up a flask of hot when you can and put that in a 12v kettle.

Get a portable camping gaz burner. Just make sure there is ventilation

That thought had crossed my mind. Have got all that stuf for racing but in that world it's in a big track garage, as you say ventilation is a must. I think 95 percent of the time we will be on "hook up" so then there is no issue. Sort of issue will be arriving in Guernsey early and can't get over the bar. Stuck in outer harbour for a couple of hours.

Paul, you can use them anywhere.

You can get them in Decathlon or Go Outdoors and there are various models. Ours have the built in sparker.

Great for making porridge and esp a cup of kye:)

Very useful bit of kit.

Safe and free standing.
