Naive question, what are the implications of this proposal for us yachties?
I‘ve looked over the documentation mentioned and don’t know how that would affect us.
Regulation of entry and exit for large vessels I’d appreciate, what other power would they have?
If that’s it, then control of Kerrera Sound would be sensible surely?

once the harbour master and the bureaucracy behind him has control they can introduce Fees , increase existing ones, charge for anchoring, restrict access.....

THer is no simple answer as each harbour authority can implement their own system but under an umbrella of the Scottish goverment guidlines on the matter
You can go to the Scottish goverment website and look for harbour authorities, this gives a better understanding of what powers they have when the boundaries are accepted
Generally they will have control of the boundaries and can make up a logistical plan which is law for that area.
The argument is if Calmac became that power, we would see no real benefits for other users and just for ferries and larger ships coming in.
Harbour authorities should have an implemented plan for the local community and the wider sea users so that every one is looked after.
I have never seen a poor run harbour authority and it is surprising when you realise your actually in one,
Tobermory is on and so is the moorings at Canna within a certain boundary.
They can in draconian times actually ask you to leave their area and it’s the law, or they can confiscate your boat
Yes all very dramatic , but that’s the law for you

A wide range of interests are represented on OCHDA who are trying to set up the Trust Port. They include yachties, Calmac, NLB, the Council, fishermen, kayakers, local businesses and the council. The trick will be (if the Trust gets going) to retain the balance of interests in the Trust when it's operating rather than waiting till it's all gone wrong before trying to do something about it.

Let’s hope and I sincerely mean that , that they get a good balance for all .
