'O' rings where?

Re: \'O\' rings where?

Jools-

If you don't find anything before your next foray to Pwllheli, There's a place at Llandudno Junction that I'd be confident would have something to match. (Quinton Hazell ?? - need to rack my brains a bit more). I think pretty much any of the rubber varieties would do you - Gross generalisations: nitrile is fairly hard; EPDM is (usually) softer; Viton & fluoro whatsit are for high temps & chemical compatability - less durable IMHO; natural rubber is cheap & lasts no time at all.

Place probably closes at 12 on Sat.

EPDM or Nitrile. Both oil resistant, and food approved. Look at the website specs they give general indication of suitability for use. Soft is not necessarily good, as it will roll and distort as you apply the radial helical forces of a screw cap.
Any decent bearing and seal shop in the North West will be happy to sort you out with 10p's worth - they are used to it.

Re: \'O\' rings where?

Just spotted your post..... Sorry I have managed to find a couple first thing this morning from my local bearing traders... I paid 17p each for them.

came out of a box similar to that in your pix.

Re: \'O\' rings where?

Have faith :-) Some oil rings are flat, some round, the ones I bought were round. Don't worry about the material, if it's good enough for oil it will certainly keep water out. I replaced ours over 2 years ago and they show no sign of degradation.

Re: \'O\' rings where?

Thank you all.

The factors in Widnes has closed down, owner retired and had no interest in selling, it was very popular and I do not, neither did his staff when I spoke to them last time I was there, understand why he did not wish to sell it on.

Just up the road is a place called City Plumbing, a trade outlet. I thought it must be worth a try. The guy got out a box as above and I now have my seal. Only problem, I was going to replace the one on the other tank and buy a couple of spares, but as this was the engineers box they had no price for singles, so he gave it to me. Very nice of him, but left me unable to say that I actually wanted 4 off.

This at least solves the immediate problem, next time I am in a place like this I will have to try and buy some more. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Never happy eh?
