I see from the front page pics the NZ keel as been reveiled. Long and slim cigar shaped with what looks like thin wings. I also notice that the 'other' keel shown in the background looks a bit heavyier, for stronger wind days perhaps?. The acticle and other pic. shows a 'add-on' bottom which I'm not sure what that suppose to do?
My son is just back for NZ and his been sailing the NZ AC boat NZ40 he says its like a racing car the slight adjustment in the helm and things happen.

Reveiled...?

Is that unveiled or reviled? Probably both. Strikes me NZ is taking a hell of a risk with the rules. Blake's policy was to play things absolutely clean so there was no possibility of a repeat of the bowsprit fiasco that put NZ out of the running at San Diego in 1994(?) He didn't even have an in-house lawyer. Seems like they're risking a lot.

Re: Reveiled...?

Well the "Swiss" are mostly the last event's winning Kiwis and there's a lot of hate in the air, so who's betting?

Re: Reveiled...?

In theory yes - the AC rules committee don't make the rules, they interpret them. Alinghi could challenge the design, and a jury would have to have to listen to their submission.

However I don't see Alinghi playing it that way.

Re: Reveiled...?

Don't bet on it. If Alinghi is the challenger those Kiwis, Couts and Butterworth, will be taking those Swiss suckers for a dive. Those guys never really left the New Zealand Team at all they just pretended to do so that they could sabotage the Kiwi's stiffest competition. They got the money from Osama Bin Laden who got it from the Saudi monarchy who got it from cavalier Yanks who drive SUV's that get such shitty mileage. You read it here first.

Re: Reveiled...?

It is interesting to speculate on where Alinghi would hold the next AmCup should they win the LVCup and then beat NZ. My betting is that they would hold it on home ground - in New Zealand!
