Well, specifically, one nut. I'm trying to source a stainless 1" nut to the spec' 1-14 UNS and it's the 'UNS' bit that is causing me a problem in UK - everyone I've tried can only offer UNF at 12 tpi, or UNC. If anyone has knowledge of a source, I would be delighted to hear from them please. I've tried places like Westfield Fasteners who were very helpful but, in the end, said 'good luck!".

Thanks in anticipation.

The S stands for special and is referring to the TPI so could be anything hence your difficulty in finding one. You can get one made on a lathe, a tap might be a bit awkward to find.
Is it a hex nut? What size a/f?
Edit, by made on a lathe I meant screwcut

Give Westward Rope and Wire in Exeter a call. I have always found them extremely helpful.

Westfield list them on their website here.... Hex Nut UNF 1 inch (14 tpi) in A2 Stainless - Westfield Fasteners Ltd, ( though the price is truly vomit inducing) as do these guys with a castellated nut which may or may not be of any use....https://www.rays-teksurplus.co.uk/1-x-1-14-uns-castle-nut-slotted-stainless-steel-part-number-an320c16-b10-12521-p.asp
may be worth asking the latter if they have any plain nuts....
Alternatively taps are available for less than £16 and so you could make as many as you wish ......

Thanks very much to one and all for the suggestions. I’ll try Westfield again (I only spoke to them this morning!) and quote the link provided by ean_p and Bilgediver. Interesting that the prices in the link are: “single nut for £20.16 or box of 2 for £19.94”. I’ll have 2 then! I guess they’ve missed the word ‘each’…

I’d found the castellated nut at ‘rays-teksurplus’ thanks, and that’s my fallback (they don’t have any plain nuts).

Not the spaceship this time colhel (it’s in for a service ?), the nut is for Edson wheel steering and the Edson rep in U.K. can’t help.

Thanks again all, the help is much appreciated.

that being the case then I would seriously think about making one in brass having bought a set of taps...... £20+ for a singular nut is just taking the pee !

UNS.
Have a look at this;-
BMC 1.5 crankshaft pulley bolt.

UNS certainly exists and there is a supplier (if I can find the reference).
Tracy Tools and The Tap and Die Company.

Seems Tracy Tools will supply a 1"-14 tap, but I wouldn't fancy putting one accurately through a stainless steel blank without some fairly serious workshop equipment. The hex. blank needs to be sourced too. And it all costs beer tokens.
